I realize it's Harbour "take your freaking life in your hands" Freight, but most of the reviews are 5 star. I have seen others very similar, but at three times the cost.

I have the 3.5 ton low profile and never had any issues. Their hand tools are crap but some of their spendier stuff is pretty decent.

Have one, use it frequently. Seems to be of decent enough quality and gets under the really low stuff.
You should be using good jackstands as well so as long as it gets the car in the air you should be fine too.

The 'No Longer Made In America, And Doesn't Have A Lifetime Warranty Anymore' Craftsman was probably made in the same factory.
Unless you're paying a lot of money for a German one, they're all the same.

I actually bought that exact floor jack about two months ago. So far so good, the rapid pump works very well. The main tighten/release feels a little flimsy, and you can let it down really fast if you aren't careful, but overall it's been very easy to use. For the money it's hard to beat.

Hand Tool quality has come up a lot. I know I was surprised with my last purchase. I worked at a harbor freight 10 years ago, and have been a customer for longer. Always used to say the same, but have been pleasantly surprised lately.
You still have to be careful, but a lot of the newer design full polished stuff is actually similar quality to what you would get at any major retailer.

The only jack that ever failed me with any degree of catastrophe was a Craftsman- and the most expensive one they make at that.

I've been using the 3 ton for my autocross jack this year, used it about 20 times so far, no issues. My previous jacks were harbor freight as well, no issues either.

Don't know about that one, but I have one of these and have been really happy with it(and have abused it terribly with no ill effect).

Fuck Harbor Freight

If they could, they would have a large portion of my monies

Yes, I have one, and it is fucking awesome. I highly recommend it! The 5-star reviews are totally justified.
Only 2-3 pumps gets the car up high. Look out for coupons in the mail that make the price even better. You can often find a coupon to get one for about $70-75. I got my 2.5-ton jack for $70. It appears they don't make the 2.5-ton anymore, but this 3-ton jack should work well for you.
Remember, with all the outsourcing shit, the Chinese bought and/or stole their patents and trade secrets and have been able to reverse engineer everything where production has shifted over there. This is why Harbor Freight's quality has been getting better lately.
But yeah, the jack is fine.

no worries mon.

It is true, it has gotten much better, but I still tend to break some tools after one solid use.

I do have that jack. Works well enough. I only need it to get the car up enough to get it on jackstands.
Jackstands which were bought elsewhere.

I have their two ton low pro aluminum jack. It squeaks like death but works fine.
Always use jack stands properly and you should be fine.

I have the 1.5 jack and I love it.

Actually, I think I bought the jack (I think it's a Buffalo) I am using now at a Harbor Freight in... 1987-ish! It's a 2 1/4 ton jack that does a great job, but I am trying to get under my S2k, and it just aint dat low! But I just wanted to double check what I thought was a quality appearance with a less moderated crowd.

Just remember to always use jack stands before you put any part of your body under the car, alright? =|

How long is that guy from saddle to bump up on the arm? The thing I like about the HF one is that it is a good 2 feet or so before the profile starts to get taller. I do like the idea of a 50 pound jack though!

That's what I am looking for, thanks.

Good to know, that was one of the biggest complaints. (the speed drop feature)

yeah... I want one of those too... dammit.

Cheers from the sports car crowd where normal jacks cannot reach.

yeah, trying to jack an S2K is trying.

Sadly most of their coupons exclude floor jacks
![]() 06/20/2014 at 14:56 |
|
Yeah, but there is a specific coupon that says "3-ton floor jack $69.99" or something. Like this:

I'll have to measure it when I get home. I bought it back when I was storing my tools in the basement and working in the driveway. It was less than half the weight of the ancient NAPA monstrosity I'd been hauling up and down the stairs.
![]() 06/20/2014 at 15:01 |

Yeah, but I need the low profile jack. big long low nose to get far under low cars. Good way to hit the central jack points.
![]() 06/20/2014 at 15:17 |
|
Well, have no fear because they have coupons for the low-pro jacks too :)
My jack that I got for $70 is low-profile and goes down to 2.75 inches. Anyway, you should still be able to get one for that price or not too much more. Just keep an eye out for coupons, and it also helps to buy the Sunday newspaper because they often have the coupons there. That's how I got my deal.
Even the one you;re looking at can be had for under $100, although the regular price isn't that bad, either.
Oh also, I forgot to highlight the best part: HF's coupons can even be used for 30 days *after* purchase!! So if you find a coupon AFTER you buy the jack, you can even get the difference back!
![]() 06/20/2014 at 15:50 |
|
Wow! what did you use to get the price under $100? I tried about 5 different coupon codes and none of them were valid for the jack. The best I have seen is a $10 off.
![]() 06/20/2014 at 16:02 |
|
Okay. I didn't realize speed drop was a 'feature' - I can't think of any time I would EVER want to drop a car quickly? But it isn't bad once you figure out how to twist the release gently.
![]() 06/20/2014 at 16:16 |
|
Yeah, the *feature* aspect was a little tongue in check... But I think most jacks are like that. You have to learn them.

I used a coupon that came in the Sunday newspaper. They regularly have a coupon sheet in those papers. So, go buy a newspaper on Sunday. Then, find the coupon for the jack you want, cut it out, and bring to the store :p
The coupons I get do have online codes on them, but you won't actually find the coupons online—you have to get them from either the paper, and/or sometimes HF mails out a coupon page. The paper coupons are better than the ones you'll find online.
Also, buying the jack online incurs a heavy item surcharge due to the weight (the jacks range from 70-100 lb give or take), so you're better off going to the store anyway.

Yeah, I usually get the fliers, I just haven't seen it yet this week. I will check though
